Deep Linking *

Deep linking, on the internet is making a link that points to a specific page or image on another website page, instead of that website's main or home page. Such links are called deep links.

As the term is self explanatory, this type of linking involves other websites getting linked to the inner pages or deep links of your website. A common practice by search engine optimisers is that they put too much emphasis on promoting the home page of any website. It is important to get more links to the home page in order to increase its PR, but, it is equally imperative to get your website’s deep links promoted and marketed in the same manner. In that way, not only your home page would be getting a high PR and ranking, but your inner pages would be getting important clicks and visits as well. That will in turn give your site a strong backbone of High PR individual pages as whole and ranking them higher in the search engines.

Deep Linking and the HTTP Protocol

The technology behind the World Wide Web, does not actually make any distinction between "deep" links and any other links—all links are functionally equal. We use the word 'deep' because the link normally points to a page or image deep within another website page. This is intentional; one of the designed purposes of the Web is to allow authors to link to any published document on another site. The possibility of so-called "deep" linking is therefore built into the Web technology of HTTP and URL by default — while a website can attempt to restrict deep links, to do so requires extra effort. According to the World Wide Web Consortium Technical Architecture Group, "any attempt to forbid the practice of deep linking is based on a misunderstanding of the technology, and threatens to undermine the functioning of the Web as a whole". This is obviously very true, because with out deep linking, we would be restricting the very aspect of the Internet, information!
